Abstract

Background and Aims: Prediction tools for identification of subclinical atherosclerosis are important for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Most current prediction tools are based on traditional risk factors and perform poorly. Identification of novel biomarkers for CVD risk prediction is an active research topic. Ceramides have recently been identified as novel biomarker to predict clinical cardiovascular diseases, but their role in prediction of subclinical atherosclerosis is unknown.
