Abstract

The article deals with the health of population living in the area affected by the pulp and cardboard mill. The aim is to assess non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks to the Selenginsk population caused by emissions from Selenginsk pulp and cardboard mill. The article examines the dynamics of average annual concentrations of pollutants in the air of the urban settlement. The results of calculations of inhalation risks are presented. The non-carcinogenic risk values exceeded the permissible values for all pollutants. Fine particles PM2,5 and ozone O3 exceeded the norms 22 and 15 times respectively for the period of five years. The calculation of the carcinogenic risk level showed that there are additional cases of neoplasms in the population caused by benz(a)pyrene in the air, and the carcinogenic risk level is unacceptable. Emergency health measures are required to reduce it.
