Abstract

This article assesses the labor issues encountered by coconut producers. It identifies the factors influencing the labor cost that burdened the coconut producers. The study was conducted in the province of Lanao del Norte in the Philippines from October to November 2016. A total of 400 coconut producers were surveyed using the closed-ended questionnaires. The data were analyzed using Garrett’s ranking method and multiple linear regression was applied by the aid of SPSS version 23. The study reveals that high cost of labor is the prime issue encountered by coconut producers in the province. The inadequacy of labors was considered as an important issue since it was ranked as the second rank in labor issues by the coconut producers. It further reveals that the number of the laborers, size of the land, and the number of coconut tree have a strong influence on the cost of labors.
