Abstract

The DETECTACOL test for faecal occult blood uses polyclonal goat anti-human haemoglobin in a radial immunodiffusion assay. Faecal homogenates prepared from three successive bowel actions are tested. Open table in a new tab These results indicate that DETECTACOL gives a greater detection rate for both bowel cancer and adenomatous polyps in the general community when compared with various studies of screening programmes currently in progress, in which chemical tests for occult blood arc used.
