Abstract

The study on variability, heritability, genetic advance and genetic advance as percentage of mean was carried out in 32 leafy mustard genotypes. Observations were recorded for number of leaves per plant at 30 and 40 DAS, days to first green leaves harvest, days to last green leaves harvest, leaf colour, leaf area, leaf length, leaf width, leaf petiole length, green leaves yield per plant and green leaves yield. Genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation was lowest in days to last leave harvest. Phenotypic coefficient of variation was higher than that of genotypic coefficient of variation for all the characters. High values of environmental coefficient of variation were observed in leaf petiole length (cm), followed by leaf area (cm2). Highest heritability value was estimated for green leaves yield plant-1 and green leaves yield showed maximum heritability (73.21%). Green leaves yield showed high heritability and high genetic advance whereas days to last leaves harvest showed lowest heritability and number of leaves per plant at 30 DAS showed lowest genetic advance.
