Abstract

Background: Due to substantial geographic and resource-constraints in sub-Saharan Africa, a large amount of emergency and essential surgical care is delivered at the District Hospital level. The present study aimed to document the education and surgical training of surgical providers at the District Hospital Level in Ghana through onsite interviews performed by a combined study team of Ghanaian and American surgeons. Materials and Methods: After institutional review board and governmental approval, the study team visited 10 District hospitals in 10 different regions of Ghana in August 2009.
