Abstract

As demand for multimedia wireless services increase, spectrum congestion forces system planner to consider the use of radio links operating at millimetre wave band. However, the high signal propagation impairment such as rain attenuation, shadowing and multipath fading effects are the dominant causes of signal degradation at those frequencies. In this paper, performances of a local multipoint distribution service (LMDS) system is analysed by considering these channel characteristics based on a proposed cellular pattern. Results show the proposed cellular pattern improves system performance by reducing the number of near interfering sources.
