Abstract

Background and aims Diabetes mellitus remain risk of developing cardiovascular disease, accounts for 80% of all deaths worldwide.Various prediction tools delineate the risk factors as well as identify high-risk individuals, evaluate potential targets of therapy and enhance cost-effective implementation of treatment. The joint WHO/International Society of Hypertension (WHO/ISH) risk prediction charts used to assess 10-years CVD risk. In Nepal, strong efforts should be implement to reduce the burden of type 2 DM and subsequent CVD. However, attention needs to be toward identifying the high-risk groups and successively reduce CVD burden in the long term. The aimed of study was to estimate the total 10-year cardiovascular disease risk using World Health Organization /International Society for Hypertension (WHO/ISH) Risk Prediction Chart on Nepalese diabetic patients. Methods This was a cross-sectional hospital based study conducted in Bir hospital, Nepal with 250 diabetic patients attending hospital were enrolled. Data were collected using a performed questionnaire, anthropometric & blood pressure measurement and medical and laboratory records. The total 10-year cardiovascular disease risk was measured using the WHO/ISH risk prediction chart.
