Abstract

The Glasgow algorithm (GA) is utilised across NSW to support diagnosis of ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in combination with transmission of ECG to a specialist reading service. The GA has a reported sensitivity of specificity of 74% and 94% respectively. Whilst a high false positive rate has been previously reported in practice, up to 35% of STEMI are missed in rural NSW, and hence are not transmitted for specialist assessment.
