Abstract

SUMMARY The value of the Mattingly (1962) method of plasma cortisol estimation was investigated in more than 90 dogs. In addition factors causing variation in plasma cortisol were investigated as well as the results of artificial adrenal stimulation in normal animals and cases of suspected Cushing’s disease. It is concluded that plasma cortisol estimations to show resting morning values, diurnal variation and response to stimulation can be useful tests of adrenal function.
