Abstract

Abstract The difficulties of machining of fiber reinforced polymer composites by traditional methods have limited the widespread application of composite materials. In this article, the mechanical properties such as flexural strength was evaluated and abrasive jet machining was performed for plain glass (G), carbon(C) and hybrid composite ([CG2CG]S) in dry and seawater aged condition. The material removal rate (MRR), surface roughness (Ra) and depth of cut (DOC) were determined. The improvement of flexural properties of hybrid composites in comparison to plain glass fiber reinforced composite was observed. The MRR and DOC were seen to be increased with rise in operating pressure. The MRR and DOC were higher for seawater aged composite than in dry condition.
