Abstract

Outcome-based education (OBE) ensures the quality education by imparting professional and technical skills, attitude, behavior, and knowledge to solve the challenges faced by the society at large. In this direction, National Board of Accreditation (NBA) was established by AICTE in 1994 to assess and promote quality of professional education in India. In OBE, the graduates are expected to acquire skills, also called as program outcomes (POs), at the end of their professional program. POs reflect the ability of graduates to solve the challenges related to society. Since POs are defined at the program level, they are fine-grained to course outcomes (COs) at the course level. The graduates become employable if they attain the POs. One of the key drivers of learning is its effective assessment. In this chapter, the authors propose to bring in rubrics, assessment, and CO/PO attainment methods, which are useful to quantify the learning of a graduate. The PO attainment helps the institutions to initiate the remedial measures to improve the skillset of the students and thereby their employability.
