Abstract

A logbook of cases is a useful tool for the formulation, guidance and assessment of clinical training. The design of such a logbook should aim to provide relevant information without being a burden on the user. Small, powerful pocket computers (personal organizers) can hold suitably large databases and are programmable, allowing data entry to be customized to the users' requirements. In addition to data entry and storage, these devices are able to process data to produce reports, and transfer their data to larger computers. The combination of ‘palmtop’ and ‘desktop’ computers makes a flexible and convenient tool for the clinical logbook system.
