Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess the relationship between Leader’s information power and employee productivity at selected Muscat governmental organizations from employee’s perspective. Information power is derived from the data and information controlled by the manager. A descriptive analytical and quantitative methodology adopted to examine the relationship between information power and employee productivity. A sample of 405 selected from four governmental organization located in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. The key finding of the study shown that there is a positive relationship between Information Power and employee Productivity at selected Muscat governmental organization. This refers that an efficient increase in using information power by leader will cause an increase on employee productivity. Also, the study indicates employees’ perspective, actually employee’s believes that they have productivity ability and acting acceptable level of productivity behaviour from their point of view. In conclusion, the study established two essential conclusions which are (i) Oman’s Government needs to review organization leader’s competencies and (ii) there is a gap between employee’s goal and organization’s goal. Finally, the study end by providing some recommendations to governmental organization leaders to enhance the utilization of information power effectively to enhance the employee’s productivity and can do so by providing training courses for managers. Also, the policy makers should take into consideration the positive relationship of information power, on enhancing the employee productivity by reforming the job specification of the Managers and leaders and making sure that the selected or promoted leaders are having an effective information power.
