Abstract
The Water Resources Planning Act of 1965 (P.L. 89–80) authorized the Water Resources Council (WRC) to prepare an assessment of the adequacy of the nation's water supplies and to appraise the utility of federal policies and programs for solving contemporary water problems. Two national assessments have been produced to date. Questions are: Have these been of value? Should the process be continued, and if so, in what format and with what frequency? These questions are addressed herein. The role of the earth scientist is also explored.
