Abstract

The effect of two price increases on ridership in a transit system is studied. A simple method is proposed in which techniques from regression are combined with those from the ARIMA methodology. It is shown that both price increases are associated with significant decrease in ridership. The results from this method, in which the components of the time series are explicitly modeled, are compared with those from the usual intervention analysis of Box And Tiao (1975).
