Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a Memory Club aimed at maintaining or enhancing the memory of elderly persons suffering from mild cognitive impairment. The cognitive and memory functioning of 31 elderly persons (mean age = 79.6) attending a Memory Club providing a social and clinical framework for elderly persons suffering from severe memory problems were assessed using a repeated measures intra-individual design. Assessments were performed every four months during one year. Results of the study showed that although a statistically significant decrease was observed in the participants' overall cognitive functioning, memory functioning was improved or at least maintained.
