Abstract

This paper presents the results of metallographic studies and tribological tests of 40X steel specimens after surface hardening with fiber laser radiation. Based on the results of the regression analysis, response surface models are constructed. They demonstrate the effect of the radiation power and processing rate on the depth and width of the hardened zones. It is shown that the wear resistance of laser-hardened steel increases by four times as compared to the base material.
