Abstract

Background Motor vehicle crashes (MVC) are the leading cause of death for US children. Twenty one percent of children under 4 years killed in MVCs were unrestrained. Appropriate use of child restraints in infants and toddlers, booster seats and safety belts in older children prevents most MVC-related deaths.
