Abstract

Constipation incurs considerable cost and anxiety to many patients who attribute it to malaise and poor health. A good knowledge and understanding of the causes, assessment and management can help not only in dealing with constipation, but also in preventing and maintaining the individual's comfort and health. In this article, Daniel Apau presents a general overview of the causes of constipation, and how to assess and manage it through pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
