Abstract
Purpose More than 80% of U.S. mothers initiate breastfeeding; for many of them, direct breastfeeding is an important goal. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) who assess infants with feeding concerns, however, are generally much more familiar with assessing bottle-feeding. The purpose of this tutorial is to assist SLPs in building on their existing assessment skills in order to provide effective, evidence-based options for mothers who wish to breastfeed their infants. Conclusion SLPs can assist families in meeting their breastfeeding goals through effective assessment of breastfeeding dyads.
