Abstract

Strictly speaking, we are in the need of discerning best soil stabilizers to counteract the problems in soft soils. Stabilizers can improve the engineering properties of soil by making it to become more stable. This analysis aims to estimate the effect of foundry sand and lime in sundry proportions based on experimental work. This can be utilized as a modifier or stabilizer in the treatment of clay soil for road work and construction. Lime is obtained by heating limestone at proper temperature. Lime stabilization can be prosperously utilized for projects to improve poor sub grade and soils. Investigations are also done by adding foundry sand which is obtained from metal foundries. It can be used for soil stabilization which can also be an effective option in waste management and sustainable development in construction industry. The effectiveness in stabilizing soils is obtained from the results of standard proctor compaction test, unconfined compressive strength test, California bearing ratio test. As a result of comparison between the three proportions conducted at three days (0, 7, 14) the property of clay increases at the day of 14 and 10% Foundry Sand and 5% lime being one of the most effective proportions. This method includes the compaction of clay soil tested at appropriate quantities of the mix prepared with alternative days. This study proves to be an effective methodology to improve the soil stabilization. Lime and foundry sand has the higher potential to act as soil stabilizers.
