Abstract

The authors evaluate the use of a standardized questionnaire to measure probable causes of death using information based on "a comprehensive record of demographic events in a population of about 23000 people in rural Senegal (Niakhar)....The questionnaires devised for this study benefited from the experience of other researchers working in similar conditions....Four draft questionnaires were tested on more than 200 cases among people living in the rural areas of Sine-Saloum in Senegal prior to the adoption of the final version of the questionnaire that is discussed [in the article]."
