Abstract

I present an in-depth review and critique of the literature on defining and predicting dangerousness to others, the genesis of the association of dangerousness and mental illness, and correlates of violent behavior as it relates to clinical social work practice. Using the empirical evidence to inform clinical decision making, a model is presented for use in the clinical assessment of clients at risk for violent behavior.
