Abstract

60 patients (26 male and 34 female) with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the average age of 58±15.2 years have been examined with the aim of studyng the influence of different atherogenic risk factors (hiperglicemia, hiperlipidemia, arterial hipertenzion (AH), smoking) on the thickness of intima-media complex (IMC) of common carotid arteries. The average duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus was 9.8±7.4 years and AH was 15.6±4.9 years. All patients underwent hospital for physical examination, evaluation of risk factors by electrocardiography, duplex scanning of extra cranial vessels, and etc. We evaluated the level of glicemia fasting in dynamics, of postprandial glicemia, indices of lipid spectrum. The obtained results showed that the ultrasound examination of the thickness of IMC made it possible to evaluate the negative influence of different atherogenic risk factors (mechanical – AH; biochemical – dyslipidemia, hipergicemia; toxic – smoking) on the condition of the arterial wall in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. In future it may faciliate to proper carrying out of active measures of prophylaxis of atherosclerosis, which would allow to hold up the development of the disease considerably and to reduce the frequency ofvascular complications.
