Abstract

The article deals with the analysis of development features of assertiveness as a component part of children and adolescents’ socialization. The article contains theoretical ground, methodological basics and results of empirical studies of the given problem. The author considers assertiveness as one of the most important fundamental characteristics of a person responsible for psychic survival and mental health of personality. Several approaches to study assertiveness are distinguished: behavioral, emotional and expressive, personal. The author proves that assertiveness consists of the positive experience of practical problem-solving, assessment results of the persons’ own actions and external assessment by significant people. The main parameters of assertiveness are emphasized such as emotional speech, open mind, sincere expression of one’s feelings; expressiveness in behavior and speech as far as showing feelings in the non-verbal sphere, ability to protest and express one’s point of view regardless the others.
