Assertiveness and Self-esteem of Nurses

Abstract

A non-experimental, descriptive study was conducted to assess the Level of assertiveness and Level of self-esteem of the nurses in selected hospitals at Thalassery. Assertiveness rating Scale developed by the researcher and Rosenberg's Self-esteem Scale were used as the tools. A sample of 135 nurses from selected hospitals of Thalassery was selected using convenience sampling technique. Data collected from the sample was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings of the study revealed that only 02.2% of the sample had good level of assertiveness and 97.7% had average level of assertiveness. 90.4% had normal level of self-esteem. The study also revealed that there is significant association between level of assertiveness and selected variables like age, marital status, years of experience and type of employment. There also exists a moderately positive relationship between level of assertiveness and level of self-esteem.
