Abstract

The divergent ligand 4′-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4,2′:6′,4″-terpyridine (1) reacts with Cd(NO3)2·4H2O under room temperature crystallization conditions (MeOH/CHCl3) to give the coordination polymer [{Cd2(1)3(NO3)4} CHCl3 MeOH]n. The polymer adopts a ladder structure with 1 bridging pairs of cadmium(II) centres along both the edges (rails) and rungs of the ladder.
