Abstract

In many ways, the Association for the Sociology of Religion has enjoyed much success over the past year and is in excellent shape as we enter 2023. Our 83rd annual meeting, our first in-person meeting since 2019, was a great success. Highlights of this year’s meeting included Jim Spickard’s Presidential Address, “Sensitizing Blinders: Theorizing Theory for a Post-Colonial Era,” and François Gauthier’s Furfey Lecture, “Thinking Outside the West: Religious Change from Nation-State to Global Market.” We offered a wide range of sessions, including ASR/ASA Joint Mentoring Sessions. Further details about these and other aspects of the annual meeting are available on the ASR website at www.sociologyofreligion.com. The results of ASR’s 2022 election were also announced at this year’s meeting. Every year we typically elect a President-Elect and three Council members from our membership. Grace Yukich is our President-Elect, which means that she will succeed ASR’s current incoming president, Gerardo Marti. Our new Secretary is Maureen Day. The three new Council members, who will serve for three year terms, are Gary Adler, Jr., Conrad Hackett, and Philip Schwadel. Congratulations to all those elected, and thanks to all of the nominees for their willingness to let their names go forward in the election. Jim Spickard, our past-president, will be the Chair of the Nominations Committee for our 2023 election.
