Abstract

The paper is devoted to the effect of an alkali medium formed upon addition of water to Portland cement on finely ground glass powder used as an additive. The generally accepted abbreviated name of the process is ASR (alkali silica reaction). On the basis of the glass powder behavior in such a medium, an assumption was made, using pH measurements, on its role in the total level of alkali content of the cement solution, and a method for determination of the optimal amount of glass powder in Portland cement was suggested.
