Abstract

The youth are the key to the future of Agriculture. The understanding the way young people respond to Agriculture and how the sector meet their aspirations is critical. Thus, an examining the aspiration of rural youth towards agriculture is important for the future development of the sector.This paper argues that the present high aspiration of the youth for white collar and formal sector professions, do not reflect lack of interested in agriculture. It was found that youth have higher aspiration to modernized, and market-oriented agriculture than subsistence one. It isalso revealed that the youth have positive attitude towards innovative and technologically advanced agriculture. The study involved rural youths, their family head and concerned government and non-government actors.
