Abstract
The treatment of composite structures within the integrated analysis environment under development at Saab Military Aircraft is discussed. A general description of this environment, consisting of a data communication module and a CAE monitor, is given. The paper focuses on the treatment of composite structures with respect to information modelling, analysis and pre- and post-processing, as well as detailed sizing of individual structural elements within the framework of aircraft design. Strength and stiffness data for both metals and composites are stored in a central database (SDB). The information model of the database, especially the composite branch, is described. Model preparation of composite structures and post-processing of analyses including composite structures will be discussed, in depth down to the level of detailed sizing of individual elements. The uses of simplified modelling of frequent structural elements are demonstrated.
