Abstract

Purpose. The aim of this work is to accurately diagnose risk factors, determine and evaluate existing legal regulations for tourist foot-orienteering competitions set in mountain areas , and to develop procedures for organisers of these events. Methods. Analysis of documents was used as the main method in the work. In addition, the design method was used. Results. The most important factors determining the safety of participants and organisers of competitions in foot tourist forms of orienteering competitions in mountain areas have been diagnosed. In light of the analysed documents, it seems that the activities undertaken by the organizers of this type of events in our country so far, question the existence of certain standards as to how to proceed in the field of safety management. Therefore, a matrix was developed to minimise risk factors for participants and the organisers of these events. Research and conclusions limitations. The limitation of the research results from the lack of verification of the proposed tools in practice. It would be advisable in the future to supplement the material with questionnaire surveys carried out among participants and organisers of such events, as well as expert observations during competitions. Practical implications. Both participants and organisers of the competition can use this material to reduce the risk of undesirable phenomena or to minimise their effects. In addition, this text can be used as a source for tourist foot-orienteering event organisers. Originality. No papers of similar content in Polish or English were found. Type of paper. The work contains conceptual elements related to the creation of tools useful in risk prevention for participants and organisers regarding tourist foot-orienteering competitions held in mountain areas.
