Abstract

This paper deals with our study of optimal design of large lighting systems with many fluorescent lamps. Major problems in large lighting systems with luminaries equipped by standard electromagnetic ballasts are inducted current oscillations. Those oscillations occur under normal operating conditions because of presence of good-quality resonant circuit formed by parasitic net inductance and compensation capacitors of luminaries. Current oscillations causes power loses and can cause malfunction of power grid. This paper contains results from the comparison of four basic layouts of large lighting systems with electromagnetic ballasts. For analysis and verification of this problem was used mathematical model of lighting system and measurements on real systems.
