Abstract

Polypyrrole films are used as a model for membranes which show electronic, in addition to ionic, charge transfer processes. Steady-state potential vs current data is interpreted in terms of fundamental electrode kinetics. According to the model developed, the ionic and electronic processes represent two parallel paths for charge transfer across the membrane, and the relationship between membrane potential and current is determined by the relative magnitude of the faradaic and ionic resistances.
