Abstract

The present paper aims to analyze some ecological a spects of the branchial microhabitat in Mediterranean barbell ( Barbus meridionalis petenyi Heckel, 1847). In the autumn of 2006, we sampled 24 specimens belonging to this cyprinid by electrofish ing from the SomeBasin. The parameters calculated for the infestation with Paradiplozoon tisae Khotenovski, 1982, were: prevalence, mean intensit y and mean abundance. Regarding the monogeneans fixing sites, most of the m manifested obvious preference for: first branchia l arch, internal hemibranch, median zone. The conclusions were argued by using the Student's t test, which als o demonstrated that parasite distribution in the righ t branchial cavity was not significantly different from the left branchial cavity (p>0.05). Also, we discussed the r elationship between host total length and the inten sity of infection. This is the first record for Paradiplozoon tisae in the Romanian fauna.
