Abstract

The bibliography of the accusative clitic doubling has centered on its phonologic; morphologic; syntactic and semantic dimensions. On the other side; the discursive and pragmatic factors involved in the process have been less studied. This paper tries to precise some of these factors from the specificity definition; a basic but still discussed notion. Through the analysis of different classes of texts with various origins; several uses of the doubling construction are stated; considering its communicative purposes; and some common statements about the doubled referents cognitive status and the inference function on its interpretation are discussed.
