Abstract
Mercury is at greatest eastern elongation, 18° from the sun, on January 28. During the last week of January it should be easily visible in the evening twilight just above the southwestern horizon. It reaches inferior conjunction on February 12. Venus, magnitude 4.0, reaches greatest western elongation, 47° from the sun, on January 25. At this time it is rising in the southeast about three hours before the sun.
