Abstract

Asparaginase inhibition of protein and glycoprotein synthesis in isolated mitochondria and microsomes was studied over a 10 5 concentration range. At 33 mg/ml, asparaginase inhibited protein synthesis in rat liver mitochondria 60%, in rat cerebral cortical mitochondria 55%, and in rat liver microsome 53%. At 33 mg/ml of asparaginase glycoprotein synthesis in rat liver mitochondria was inhibited 60% and in rat cerebral cortical mitochondria 40%. At 10 −3 mg/ml of asparaginase no inhibition of any system occurred.
