Abstract

The article analyses the concept of the social career, aiming to reveal the relevance of this theoretical provision as the possible socioeducational strategy to the people with intellectual disabilities in the context of overcoming social exclusion. Different career types are discussed, emphasizing that in the works of Lithuanian scientists the aspects of the social career of the person with disability usually are discussed only in employment terms. In order to characterise the elements of the model, different interdependent competence groups were selected. The article presents the fragment of the case analysis on the base of structured interview and observation analysis; this fragment approves the importance of the social career in the life road of people with intellectual disability.
