Abstract

Medical science has progressed by leaps and bounds in the last century. The credit of this progress rests with research done both in basic and clinical fields. A quick review of the published literature, however, shows an abysmal contribution from our country. This doesn't imply that Indian names do not figure in the published medical literature. In fact, most of the path breaking studies have names which are obviously of Indian subcontinent. This is indeed heartening. However, we cannot ignore the fact that these research contributions have been carried out in USA and European Union, often carried out by post doctoral fellows who are imported by the dozens every year. doi : 10.5214/ans.0972.7531.2009.160203
