Abstract
Abstract He was until recently the Director General of CERN, the European laboratory for particle physics in Geneva, and it was here that we interviewed him, shortly before his term of office came to an end. He has spent most of his professional life in these laboratories and it is largely due to him that CERN is now the particle physics capital of the world.
