Abstract

Raised, roughly circular, corky scabs 4-5 mm in diameter and typical of citrus canker were observed on spring flush leaves, twigs, and fruits of pummelos (Citrus grandis) in a young orchard near Darwin, Australia, during a survey conducted in 1991 as part of the Northern Australia Quarantine Strategy. The causal agent was identified as Xanthomonas campestris pv. citri (Asiatic group, or group A), using pathogenicity in a series of hosts, fatty acid profiles, and DNA fingerprints (.)
