Abstract

World peace depends on the effort of the entire human race, and peace psychology cannot afford to be parochial and monolithic. This article argues for an Asian voice in peace psychology by highlighting what Asian peace psychology can offer. Drawing primarily on the articles in this special issue, it is argued that Asian peace psychology can contribute theoretically by identifying novel peace and conflict phenomena in Asia, providing a testing ground for Western theories, and developing innovative constructs and theories. On the applied side, Asian peace psychology can shed light on effective strategies for the attainment of peace in the Asian context, with an eye toward unraveling mechanisms that are exportable to other parts of world.
