Abstract

The proposal to create a Dispute Mediation Service (DMS) to resolve trade and economic disputes within APEC arose from a variety of factors, including continuing U.S.-Japan trade tensions, particularly in the automotives sector. In addition, there has been growing interest by Western companies involved in trans-Pacific trade and investment in enhancing the means for effective international commercial dispute resolution.
