Abstract

Researchers from Oregon State University's rangeland resources department studied the effects of fire on the Brazilian tropical rain forests. They compared the intact rain forest with that of forest cut and cleared by humans. They found that it is almost impossible to start a forest fire in an intact forest. They measured rainfall, temperature and humidity and developed a model for predicting the likelihood of fires in different types of tropical rain forest.
