Abstract
The new school year 2023/2024 is a new episode for SMP Negeri 3 Lembang because, in the odd semester of 2023, the independent learning curriculum began to be implemented, the implementation of which began in grade 7. One part of the independent learning curriculum is the existence of assessments, where in its division the assessment is divided into cognitive and non-cognitive diagnostic assessments. The assessment is applied in all subjects including PAI subjects. Starting from the implementation of the independent learning curriculum at SMPN 3 Lembang this year, researchers conducted a cognitive diagnostic assessment in PAI subjects in the first chapter, namely Al-Quran and Hadith as a guide to life with five quiz questions given to 302 students in grades 7D to 7K to find out the extent of students' understanding of the material to be learned. This research uses a qualitative approach with a field study method, while data analysis is carried out quantitatively descriptively. The results concluded that the cognitive diagnostic assessment of students was categorized as low at 72% (combined grades C and D) as many as 214 students did not pass, and the remaining 5% (15 students) were categorized as very good (A), and 23% (70 students) were categorized as good (B). This can occur due to the factor of students' unfocused ness in participating in PAI learning, the surrounding environment that also influences, and the support and attention of parents also contribute.
