Abstract

Asclepius the healer god, as he was worshipped at the temple of Epidaurus, is compared with Jesus as healer in the New Testament. It is concluded that the myths surrounding their birth, life, death and deification, as well as the healing stories associated with them, are slightly different realisations of basically the same vision of the world, serving similar sociological functions.
