Abstract

Parents require access to practical, evidence based advice about infant feeding that is consistent with current recommendations. This is particularly important when infants are considered to be at risk of developing food allergy or have a known food allergy, as parents may be reluctant to introduce allergenic solid foods to these infants. Updated ASCIA guidelines for infant feeding and allergy prevention were released in May 2016 after the Centre for Food & Allergy Research (CFAR) Infant Feeding Summit. These guidelines include three key recommendations agreed on at the Summit. The ASCIA Paediatric and Dietitian committees recognised the need for additional practical advice about infant feeding for parents to be used in conjunction with the guidelines. ASCIA practical infant feeding information ASCIA Practical information on how to introduce solid foods to infants and ASCIA Guidelines for Infant Feeding and Allergy Prevention provide comprehensive feeding advice that is consistent with National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and WHO.
