Abstract

In 2019, the largest population increase occurred as Canada’s population grew by 208, 234 (0.6%) with the majority of people being immigrants and non-permeant residents (Statistics Canada, 2019). Population growth was highest in British Columbia (+0.7%) with the greatest immigrant population coming from China, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan (Statistics Canada, 2019; Statistics Canada, 2017). The mixing of East Asian and Canadian cultures is not easy and can sometimes be conflicting for children of East Asian immigrants. This paper aims to gain a better understanding of the acculturation gap, intergenerational conflict, coping strategies, and how these experiences may influence future parenting behaviours of East Asian children raised in North American.
